Why is my iPod touch playing music through the speaker while I have my headphones in?

I hVe my earplugs in my iPod touch and it’s playing through the headphones AND the iPod speakers outloud. I just want it to play through my headphones.
Tried that many times. The songs are changing randomly as well WTF this is a new iPod
