The sound is good. A few cons: The volume button is really annoying. My previous stereo was a Philips which I had for about 15 years. I got so used to the volume dial, which was very easy to change (like turning the volume down when the phone rang, etc). This new system has a +/- button, and you have to sit there and push it a bunch to turn it up/down. Out of 8 plastic docking fittings, there was not one that fit the new generation Nano. There is no way to directly select the source you want on the stereo, you have to push the “Source” button to scroll through the options. You can select source on the remote, but I like to have the option without having to search for the remote.

27 Sept 09: Review update: 5 Stars: I bought this at Woot in August and was dismayed at first that the CD player didn’t work. I bought it for the CD player and the duel voltage feature as we have 240V where we currently live. I was able to program the clock and radio. It works fine with my son’s iPod. After searching the web and reading countless customer reviews, I found the solution and the CD player works fine. I forget which button needed to be pressed to turn off one feature. Once that was turned off, the CD player worked fine. The sound is awesome. I love this product and highly recommend.

I am very disapointed with the quality of the sound. The quality is worse than radio quality. The CD player makes this wierd scratching noise when you play at high or even medium volume. I am extremely disappointed. Forget about playing your ipod on it, the sound quality is even worse than the cd! And the Bluetooth: terrible. I was able to pair it with my phone (Nokia e71). I made a test call and 30 seconds later, the system shut down and my phone froze. Pretty much the only thing that worked well was the SD card reader and the FM radio. Thats it… SO, summing up, if you want to waste 130 bucks on an fm radio with an SD card reader and horrible sounding speakers, buy this product!

Great product with so many features. However, can be complicated to work some of these features.

Liked the specs for this, and figured it would be perfect for our living room. I saw a couple of reviews where people griped that it didn’t work, or was otherwise defective. I figured Phillips was a good enough brand to make a working CD player. I was wrong.
The trouble started about a month after we started using the item (just long enough that we couldn’t return it to Amazon). The CD player would randomly get ‘locked up’ while playing a CD. It would sit there and spin, but wouldn’t actually play the CD anymore. I tested multiple CD’s just to make sure it wasn’t specific to a particular one. OK, CD player doesn’t really work, and I can’t return it. CD players have only been around 20 years, and you can buy one that does work for $20. Why doesn’t this one?
Then, the same thing started happening with the ipod dock. Both my wife’s touch and my iPhone would randomly stop playing and it would just say ‘charging’. To get it to start working again would require unplugging it, and plugging it back in.
Basically, it could very well break after you are able to easily deal with the problem. Buy something else that will actually work!
