I thought my Philips docking speaker was the only one that had static until I saw some other reviews of the SBD6000. Using an iPod Touch, I tried plugging it into different outlets to see if there was interference from a particular appliance but the noise persisted. One other reviewer wrote that the noise becomes less noticeable when music is playing or after he listened for a while. Yes, that is a phenomenon of the brain getting used to tuning out the “white noise” but this also produces auditory fatigue. I wish I had known about the static problem before I bought the dock. I lost my receipt and could not return the item. Buy something else and be prepared to return it if there’s static.

I purchased the Philips for one purpose but after taking them to the office I’ll buy another set…NO STATIC at all!!! I use them everyday/all day with NO problems at all…I’ve used mine continually for over 6 months. Great portability if you need that. Keeps my ipod charged!

Bought this at Target for the sell price here at Amazon, and chose it because of the satelite speaker design, to get better stereo sound. I still like the design, it fit well on my desk, and has a handy travel case. Sound quality is very poor though. I plugged in my iPod touch, turned the speakers on and there was quite a bit of static. Once I started the music, the static didn’t go away, just became less noticeable. After about 10 minutes (around 3 songs), the base unit was warm (not hot) to the touch, the static grew progressively worse and a buzzing sound started.
I do not have any issues with static or buzzing when plugging my iPod into my car stereo, so I believe this is a poor quality product, and will be returning to the store today.

When my beloved Logitech mm50 lost it’s power connecting ability after a long hard happy life, I needed a replacement and times being hard could no longer afford another $150 dock. Bought this on sale for about 35 bucks, figuring it was an acceptable gamble.
PLUSES:
-I was pleasantly surprised by the sound quality which is surprisingly good. Some bass, not too much, but plenty of volume power. Nice and crisp! Even my husband, a sound snob, thought it sounded great for the size and price. Not exactly a Bose, but after all a fraction of the cost.
-Design allows you to unwind the speaker cords to set the speakers much farther apart than most mini systems, which improves the sound even more.
-Great design, very compact, easily portable (As an art teacher I love to bring music to class). Comes with a nice little case.
-Recharges my Ipod Touch if plugged in, even while playing.
-Also runs on AAA batteries (although the instructions say don’t use rechargeables – I usually plug in anyway).
MINUSES:
-One review mentioned static. Yes, there is sometimes soft static when nothing is playing. I’m a big fan of audio books and it’s sometimes there in the background, sometimes not, but so far not in a way that I find distracting – I forgot it quickly and enjoyed my book. Don’t hear it with music playing at all. Will explore whether it changes with location. Strangely enough, it disappears entirely when running on battery power.
-Another reviewer mentioned the base unit getting warm. Mine does too at first, not alarmingly, and then completely cools off after it’s been on for a few minutes.
So I’ve decided that I LOVE the thing!!! Great little unit for the money, even at the full 69 bucks. Only thing I can’t comment on of course, is the longevity. So far I’m thrilled with it – lots of pluses, and for me the minuses are no big deal.

Got it for $20 + $5 shiping from Woot. Sounds good, but couldn’t use it where I intended due to the AC plug not fitting in the space I had available. It ships with a bunch of adapters, but none of them seems like a great fit for my Nano.
Note that it only works with iPods – no way to plug in any other device!!
